FEEL THE HISTORY
About
Juju est. 2000
Juju began in 2000 and was created by The Soul Children, a Los Angeles-based crew of artists, promoters, producers, and DJs. Consisting of Al Jackson, Sacred, DJ Rome, mcdj1One, and Q Michelle, their mission was to inject soulful and creative expressions into the nightlife of the L.A. club scene. Juju got its start in the historic Leimert Park community of Los Angeles and eventually branched off into other regions around town.
By definition, “Juju” is an object believed to embody magical powers by keeping negativity at bay. The Soul Children would find refuge in this word and deemed it the chosen name for their club venture. With Juju, the Soul Children honored the ancestors with music, nourishment and libations.
More than 20 years later, Juju continues to evolve to this day. It is a movement that challenges the creative impulses of the local nightlife by infusing jazzy musical themes with soulful visual presentations. In its current embodiment, as a private social club in the West Jefferson Artists District, Juju is a space for members to dance, perform, celebrate and uplift.
